How does the operator know where to set the position of the machine’s handles? Simply stand behind the machine with your arms relaxed in front of you. Match the handle height to that of your hands. There is no need to lock the handle in place. Running the machine is a breeze, even for the first time user, since the motion of the 12 x 18″ plate creates minimal resistance with relation to where you want the machine to go. The operator should be able to move the machine left, right, forward or reverse with hardly any effort, by simply lifting up or pushing down slightly on the handles.

There are numerous circumstances where the removal of products from flooring is required. These machines, also called Squar Buff sanders, in most cases, can tackle most problems related to these situations. Where more aggressive action is required, check out the American Sanders RS-16. When drum sanders are used on hardwood floors, the waves and/or chatter marks may result. Using the OBS-18 with fine grit sandpaper or mesh screens creates better overall results. These floor machines are often rented out for sanding floors, screening between coats of finish, polishing tile floors, treating granite and marble, applying waxes and the list goes on. The possibilities are really quite numerous. Every rental yard should carry at least one in their fleet.

  • Blow compressed air through the motor and handle housings so once in awhile, as these machines are often used under extremely dusty conditions.
  • Upon return, inspect the power cord for defects. These machines can be driven over cables.
  • Check the tool for damage which may be caused by running the machine hard into walls. Also look for signs of premature wear, which can occur when operators run the pad gripper without floor pads in place.
  • When transporting or storing the machine, it’s advisable to remove any accessories from the pad gripper.
  • Empty the dust bag when it’s about ½ full. This reduces the potential for a fire hazard.
