Repair imperfections, gouges and scratches
in wood, laminates, tile, cabinets,
countertops, trim and more
Before You Begin: There are numerous applications for this product. Some surfaces can withstand more heat than others, so the user must determine the tolerance levels of the areas being repaired. It should also be pointed out that any area being repaired should be well cleaned prior to applying the thermoplastic product, to enable optimum adhesion. Heating Thermoplastic Sticks: Allow the butane torch to heat the welding tip until it reaches a steady operating temperature. This is usually achieved after about 30 seconds on full power. While holding the stick(s) closely above the repair area, contact them with the welding tip, using small, even dabs, rather than burying the welding tip into the product, to avoid waste. Don’t allow the product to burn, indicated by too much smoke. The resultant oxidation will not only inhibit adhesion, but may appear in the finished product, especially lighter colours. If a combination of sticks is necessary to match colours, mix them on the metal scraper or some other durable surface that won’t melt. Once the desired colour is created, bring the product onto the repair area with the welding tip or metal scraper. Thermoplastic may be reheated if necessary. Finishing Touches: While the product is still warm, press it into the repair area, using the metal scraper. Any product that bleeds out from the area can be scraped off or planed, using the appropriate tools included in the kit. The thermoplastic does not have to be liquified at this point…solid product should be easy to work with. If necessary, lightly abrade the product to match the degree of sheen on surrounding areas. No maintenance is required for thermoplastic sticks.
